Arrangement has been concluded for the 2024 edition of Qur’anic Recitation Contest slated for 19th to 27th December in Kebbi State.
This was disclosed during an inaugural meeting held at the palace of Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera in Argungu, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The meeting consisted of a high powered committee of eminent Islamic Jurists, Academicians and Government Technocrats, under the Chairmanship of the Emir, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera.
The Emir advised the members discharge their duties with high sense of dedication and diligence to pave way for the success of the exercise.
While appreciating His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu for finding them worthy to promote the Glorious Qur’an and Religious tenets, the Emir described the task as highly enormous.
“We have a big task in front of us, we are thankful to GOD for affording us the opportunity to advance the cause of this Islamic practice, bequeathed to Muslims by the Noble Prophet Muhammad, (SAW).
“We are prayerful to God to make the week for the recitation a blessing to Kebbi and entire Nigeria, May Allah the infinitely merciful drive away all challenges facing our nation”, the Emir prayed.
He charged the committee members to discharge their duties with fear of God Almighty in view of the fact that Kebbi would host people from different parts of the country.
“We are under obligation to uphold the trust and confidence reposed in us by our leader, Gov. Nasir Idris; we must not disappoint him in anyway.
“I am confident we are going organise a befitting competition. I want to use this opportunity to invite all Muslims to come and witness this event which starts on the 19th and ends on 27th of December, 2024,” he said.
Kebbi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Aliyu is the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, with the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Nasir Kigo, serving as Secretary.
Other members comprised the Commissioners for Information and Culture; Animal Health, Husbandry and Fisheries; Basic and Secondary Education; Youths and Sports Development; Women Affairs; as well as the Commissioner for Environment.
Also on the committee, are the Rector, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Usman Sani Tunga, and the Chief Imam of Birnin Kebbi Central Mosque, Sheikh Mukhtar Walin Gwandu.
A delegation from the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, organisers of the National Qur’an Recitation Competition, briefed the Committee on processes and operational structure of the exercise, known as MUSABAQA.
