Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that the State Government will subsidize electricity for its residents to enable them enjoy improved power supply.
The Governor stated this when he received the management of AEDC led by its Chief Business Officer Engr. Sam Odekina at the Government House Minna.
Umaru Bago who expressed displeasure with the epileptic power supply in Niger State called on AEDC to improve power supply adding that he is concerned about the common man and the sufferings they face due to the present hot weather.
He called on the AEDC to work closely with the State Ministry of power and Renewable Energy to look at the average consumption of customers on the service base lines in order to finalize plans for subsidy and appealed to AEDC to improve on power supply as the State Government will not relent on its promise to subsidize.
The Chief Business Officer AEDC, Engr. Sam Odekina assured the Governor that they will improve power supply in Niger State saying that, what is currently being faced is because of more consumption from consumers due to the hot weather saying, the quantum of electricity that comes to them is not sufficient to be supplied to everyone at the same time.
He explained the various Service based tariffs and that availability of power supply is based on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and admitted that one of the challenges is the refusal of customers to pay electricity bills.
Engr.Sam expressed optimism that the subsidy to be paid by the State Government will help in addressing the situation and improve power supply
