The Kebbi State House of Assembly has endorsed the sterling leadership qualities of His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu with vote of confidence.
The lawmakers made their position known during the breaking of fast (Iftar) with the Governor at Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Speaking through the Speaker of the House, Hon. Muhammad Usman-Zuru, said the entire lawmakers were strongly and solidly behind his administration.
He said: “The entire members of the house are 100 per cent in support of your mission and vision. Since the creation of Kebbi State, we have never had a peaceful and cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature like the present one.
“Compared to the present situation in some of our neighbouring states of Sokoto and Zamfara, their assembly is not at peace with the executive. In Zamfara for example, the lawmakers have suspended three or four of their members.
“But here in Kebbi, with what the governor is doing to the assembly, the house is becoming more solid, because at the initial stage, we have some of our members who are from the main opposition party but they have willingly defected to APC.”
The speaker assured the governor that the cordial working relationship between the house and the executive would be sustained “throughout the eight years of your administration and after these eight years, you will go to Abuja to lead Nigeria as President.”
While promising that the house would never disappoint the governor, Usman-Zuru assured that whatever that would bring development to the state, the governor brought to the house would surely receive the endorsement of the house.
Usman-Zuru added that the house would stand firm in support of the present administration, saying that the house would soon establish a check and balance committee to ensure that “all the projects the governor is doing are executed by the ministries.
“This is with a view to supporting the developmental stride of Kauran Gwandu’s government to enable it achieve it set goals and objectives.”
Responding, Gov. Idris appreciated the lawmakers for maintaining the peaceful and cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature.
He assured the readiness of his administration to reciprocate the gesture, adding that he would do everything possible within the ambit of the law to enable the lawmakers bring positive development to the state.
The governor said: “I personally knew most of you even before I became the governor and I know your capabilities, please keep the flag flying.
“I can vividly recall, when you visited me sometimes back, some of your colleagues were from opposition party but today, I am happy all of you belong to the rulling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“So far so good, we have fulfilled more than 70 to 75 per cent of the pledges we have made to our people during electioneering campaign. In addition to that, we have even execute other projects that are not in our camping promises.
“That’s how we will continue doing until our state is fully developed, this remains part of my mission and vision.”
