Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has visited the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery at St. Petersburg, Russia where he paid tribute to the hundreds of thousands of victims that died during the 900-day siege of Leningrad during World War II.
The Governor was in company of the Secretary to the State Government Abubakar Usman and some other top Government Officials including the Chairman Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun where he laid a wreath in respect of the victims.
He reflected on the enormous sacrifices made by both civilians and soldiers during the Wars while also showing empathy and solidarity with the Russian people.
Governor Umaru Bago used the forum to highlight the significance of tapping from historical events which tends to strengthen a more peaceful World, stressing the role of international engagement in promoting stronger ties between sub-nationals and preserving the memories of past generations for the future.
