Prestige FM Radio Minna has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The station’s Executive Director, Malam Yusuf Ibrahim Ladan, Represented by the station’s News Editor, Yakubu Mustapha Bina, presented sixteen sacks of assorted items during a condolence visit to Mokwa Local Government Secretariat.
He expressed deep concern over the number of lives lost and the scale of destruction caused by the flood, describing it as alarming, urging the residents to take the unfortunate incident in good faith.
Mallam Yusuf Ladan emphasized the need for residents to adhere to safety measures and avoid building in flood-prone areas to prevent future disasters.
He also called on individuals, corporate bodies, and non-governmental organizations to support the victims, stressing that the government alone cannot shoulder the burden.
Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, Field Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Jiya, commended the radio station for its timely intervention and urged others to follow suit.
Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Abdullahi Muregi, represented by Councillor Mohammed Sani, also appreciated the gesture, describing it as a sign of compassion and community support.
The donated items included clothes for children and adults such as trousers, shirts, shoes, slippers, hijabs, and over 150 wrappers intended to ease the suffering of affected residents.
