Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, to enable the organisation deliver effective healthcare services across the state.
Governor Idris gave the assurance during an inspection visit to malnutrition stabilisation and treatment centres in Takalau (Birnin Kebbi LGA), Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, and Maiyama in Maiyama Local Government Area.
He commended MSF for its humanitarian efforts, particularly in tackling malnutrition and saving the lives of undernourished children in the state.
Reacting to a recent publication regarding cases of malnourished children in Kebbi, the governor expressed satisfaction that MSF had clarified and debunked the claims.
“We assured MSF that the Kebbi State Government is doing everything possible to support them. We also encouraged them to promptly alert us whenever they require any form of intervention,” he said.
Governor Idris also applauded the state’s Ministry of Health for its efforts in improving healthcare delivery, stating, “Whether someone likes it or not, this government is alive to its responsibilities. Let the opposition say what they want — the people of Kebbi State know that this government is working, and that’s why they are rallying behind the APC.”
He added that his administration’s record in service delivery speaks for itself: “It’s on record that Kebbi people have never had it this good. By God’s grace, before we reach our destination, we will impact every sector of the economy.”
The governor further cautioned against politicising the health sector, emphasizing that all levels of government — federal, state, and local — are doing their part to improve healthcare in the state.
“We are doing everything possible to address the challenges in the health sector. It is not new, and we remain focused on achieving better outcomes for our people,” he said.
