Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has received Niger State’s official bid document to host the 24th edition of the National Sports Festival.
The document was presented during the State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber, Government House, Minna, by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Yahaya Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nuhu Garba Ngaski.
According to the Ministry, Niger State’s bid was rated the best among all bidding states.
During the meeting, Governor Bago was also presented with samples of track suits for the state’s contingents, ahead of the festival scheduled to commence on December 28, 2028.
In a separate presentation, the Commissioner for Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, Elizabeth Shaba, presented the Governor with locally made branded snacks (kuli kuli), produced by women supported under a state government empowerment initiative. She noted that the product has a ready market for both local sales and export.
The Governor was further decorated as a Vaccine Ambassador by the Commissioner for Primary Health, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, on behalf of Rotary Club International and the Forum of Spouses of Nigerian Governors.
Commissioner for Homeland Security, Abdullahi Garba Muhammad, also presented Governor Bago with the OAN Nigerian Leadership Award as Icon of Societal Transformation, conferred by the Centre for Patriotism and Value Re-orientation under the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, the Governor was honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Progressives Governors’ Forum, presented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Binta Mamman. He also received the Nursing Advocate Extraordinaire award from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, delivered by the Commissioner for Tertiary Health, Dr. Bello Tukur.
Rounding off the presentations, Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa, handed over a plaque to the Governor from the Agro-Best Reality TV Show. He disclosed that Niger State will host the upcoming season of the show, which will feature agri-entrepreneurs from all 36 states and the FCT in a 60-day competition.
