President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), reappointing Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as Executive Chairman for another five-year term while unveiling a fresh line-up of commissioners from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The move, announced on Monday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, signals the administration’s commitment to strengthening the FCC’s mandate of promoting fairness, equity, and inclusivity in federal appointments and resource distribution.
Dankaka, who first assumed office in 2020, will continue to lead the commission’s policy direction.
Her reappointment is complemented by the retention of Kayode Oladele, the Ogun State representative and former House of Representatives member, who briefly served as Acting Chairman after Dankaka’s first term ended. Mohammed Musa has been named the new Secretary of the Commission.
Other notable reappointments include Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), and Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun), each beginning their second term.
The President also approved the appointment of 31 new state representatives, bringing in a mix of political heavyweights, technocrats, and grassroots leaders. Among them are former legislators, veteran unionists, engineers, legal practitioners, and community leaders — a blend the presidency says is aimed at ensuring the FCC benefits from diverse perspectives.
