Niger State governor and President, Minna Polo Club, Governor Mohammed Umaru has advocated the use the game of Polo as a platform to provide Scholarship to children of the less privileged in the Society.
The governor stated this at the closing ceremony of the Governor’s Charity Polo tournament organized by the Minna Polo Club in honour of the governor as support to the less privileged.
Governor Umaru Bago said it is a welcome development seeing the younger generation developing interest in the game of Polo adding that, it has become imperative to use the Minna Polo Club to source for funds to ensure that children who are less privileged attend school.
The governor who made the donation of N50m to the Minna Polo Club appreciated the First Vice President of the Club, Mohammed Babangida for promoting the game of Polo across the Nation while calling on other Corporate organisations to key into the idea of supporting children of the downtrodden through sports as part of their corporate social responsibility.
First Vice President, Minna Polo Club who also doubles as the President of Kaduna Polo Club, Mohammed Babangida in his remarks appreciated the farmer governor for the tremendous support to the game of Polo describing his efforts as an evolution of dedication and commitment.
He equally thanked the governor for approving the organizing of the Charity Cup annually as it will continue to afford the opportunity to support the less privileged.
Son of the Governor, Marwan Bago acknowledged to be the youngest Polo player in Nigeria was part of the Bago Farms team (1) that won the High level category of the Governor’s Charity Polo tournament after defeating Dokaji Polo team with an aggregate score of 7 goals against 2 and half goals.
Niger foods defeated Minna Maizube team by 3 goals to 2 to win the middle level category by an aggregate shoreline of 4 goals to 3 while Bago Farms team (2) beat Prexir team by an aggregate scoreline of 5 goals to 1.
All players from the runners-up teams as well as the winning teams respectively were presented with awards for their remarkable efforts.
The event was well attended with the Emir of Minna Alh. Umar Faruk Bahago, Member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha federal constituency Saidu Musa Abdullahi, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Usman Abdullahi Gbatamangi and Chairman Niger Foods Sammy Adigun among eminent personalities in attendance.
