The Kebbi State Traditional Rulers have congratulated Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera over his appointment as the pioneer Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaka Rabi’u University Kano (KHAIRUN).
The Secretary, Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Lamin Shehu-Kuwa disclosed this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Shehu-Kuwa listed the Emirs to include; the Emir of Gwandu, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar, Emir of Yauri, Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi and Emir of Zuru, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Sani-Sami.
The Emirs described the appointment as apt and well deserved and prayed to Almighty Allah to give him wisdom and courage to discharge the assigned responsibilities diligently.
While praying for him for a successful tenure, the Emirs urged him to be good ambassador of Kebbi Emirate Council and Kebbi State at large.
The appointment is contained in a letter signed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the university, Prof. Muhammad Sani Zaharaddeen and addressed to the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera.
The letter reads in parts: “I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Khalifa Isyaka Rabi’u University Kano (KHAIRUN) has approved your appointment as the pioneer Chancellor of the university.
“On behalf of the proprietor and the BOT, I am delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to you on your appointment.
“We are honoured to have someone of your calibre and distinguished reputation assume this prestigious role.”
Sani-Zaharaddeen said the appointment may not be unconnected to the fact that the emir was a strong advocate of education and his significant contribution to the sector as well as his extensive experience in the field and classroom as a practicing engineer, teacher and lecturer.
The BOT Chairman expressed optimism that the Emir’s leadership, vision and dedication would bring to bear on the reputation of the university and contribute to its growth and success.
“As the Chancellor, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction of the university, fostering academic excellence and nurturing a culture of innovation and inclusivity,” he noted.
