Niger State Government has donated digital equipment worth Millions of Naira to the State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Presenting the equipment at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Minna, the Commissioner for Communication Technology and Digital Economy, Suleiman Isah said the intervention was aimed at eliminating difficulties experienced by the citizens in data capturing in processing their passports.

He said the State Government through the Ministry has been receiving complaints about difficulties and stress experienced by citizens to get their passport hence the intervention to address the challenges.

“Looking at the traffic that is going to increase with this coming Hajj operations, the Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said as a Ministry we should look into how we can improve that process.

“We expect that any citizen of Niger State that goes for passport should be able to have a turn-around time of 24-48hours for data capturing, that will increase the speed not just for Hajj operations but even students that have scholarship abroad and are forced to forfeit the scholarship because they didn’t get the passport on time will now become a thing of the past” The Commissioner stressed.

He expressed optimism that with the five number of complete sets of the equipment, the process will become faster and easier for the citizens especially Nigerlites.

Receiving the items, the Acting Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Niger State Command, Emmanuel Eche on behalf of the Comptroller-General of the Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap appreciated the State Government under the leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago over donation of the items.

He described the gesture as first of its kind over the recent times in Nigeria adding that the donation will not only go along way improving the services of the Command but assist the citizens of Niger State and the nation in general.

Items presented includes desk top computers, signature pads, Digital Cameras, tripods, finger print scanners with capacity for four fingers at a time among others.

Highlight of the event include presentation of letter of appreciation to the Commissioner for Communication Technology and Digital Economy and photographs.
