The Director General Nigerian Broadcasting Cooperation (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, has urged broadcast stations to produce content that reflects the cultural diversity of Nigeria in order promote peace and unity.
The new Director General spoke at a one day engagement with Chief Executive Officers of Broadcast stations organized by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation at Hawthorn Suites Abuja.
Ebuebu affirmed that in times of conflict and emergencies, public interest must be the central focus, stressing that broadcasters must avoid sensational reporting
He warned broadcasters to be wary of people who are bent on destabilizing the peace of the country by causing chaos among Nigerians.
The DG added that broadcasting stations needs to formulate comprehensive polices that supports the growth and resilience of broadcasting industries in the face of evolving technology.
He also reiterated his commitment towards promoting open communication and dialogue while emphasizing the importance of collaborative, inclusive and innovative approaches to policies.
Several issues such as judicial reviews, interference, broadcaster identification, illegal stations, professionalism, license fees, lack of proper understanding of the NBC code among others were discussed.
