In a bid to enforce mining regulations, the Ministry of Mineral Resources embarked on a surprise visit to a mining site three arm zone earlier today. Led by Director of Mining, Garba Adamu Musa, the ministry officials were joined by members of Nigeria Hunter’s Association.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 30 persons, 22 men, among were 8 underage boys and 18 women, 7 of whom were underage, for their involvement in illegal mining activities.
The arrest person were taking to the GRA Police Stations Minna Niger State for proper prosecution for their involvement in the illegal mining activities in the state after several warnings and crack down on the hazardous activities in the state.
During the raid, the ministry confiscated various equipment used in the illicit operations. The seized items included 13 head pans, 15 water bowls, 10 shovels, 5 shot diggers, and 1 hole.
This significant haul highlights the determination of the ministry to combat illegal mining activities, which pose environmental and safety hazards.
The arrests send a strong message to those involved in exploiting Nigeria’s natural resources unlawfully, particularly concerning the use of underage labor.
The Ministry of Mineral Resources has emphasized its commitment to clamp down on illegal mining operations and protect the welfare of Niger State citizens, especially children, involved in such illicit activities.
