Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has mourned Lt. Gen. Garba Duba (retd.), former Military Governor of Bauchi and Sokoto States.
The Governor, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the death of Lt. Gen Duba as a huge loss to the State in particular and Nigeria in general.
He said the deceased was a very resourceful Military officer, which was why he served as Military Governor of two different States under two different administrations with remarkable achievements.
The Governor further acknowledged that the late Lt. Gen. Duba was a force to reckon with owing to his meaningful contributions to the growth and development of Kontagora Emirate, Niger State and Nigeria.
He observed that the late Lt. Gen Garba (retd.) was not only a successful Military officer, but also an accomplished businessman who contributed immensely to the development of the Private Sector.
While commiserating with the Emir of Kontagora, members of his Emirate and the family of the deceased, the farmer Governor prayed to Allah to comfort them and make Aljanna Firdausi the final abode of late Lt. Gen. Duba (retd.).
The Lt. Gen Garba Duba (retd.) was born in 1942 and joined the Army as a Cadet officer at the Nigerian Military Training College Zaria in 1962, and rose to become a Lt. Gen. in the Military.
The deceased was the Military Governor of Bauchi State from July 1978 to October 1979 during the Military rule of Gen Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was also the Military Governor of Sokoto State between January 1984 and August 1985 under the Military regime of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Late Lt. Gen. Duba retired in 1993 and joined Private businesses where he Chaired the New Nigerian Development Company, SGI Nigeria Limited, and the Board of Leadway Pension Fund, at different times.
He was also a former Director in First Bank of Nigeria, non-executive and director of Honeywell Flour Mills Plc among others.
