Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago has applauded the resilience, sacrifices and contributions of Journalists and the Media in promoting the positive narrative uncovering the pragmatic developmental aspirations of his administration in the last twelve months.
In a statement to mark his first anniversary in office, Governor Umaru Bago appreciated the painstaking efforts of the Journalists in their daily assessments and reportage of the progress being made to achieve the New Niger Agenda.
The Governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Bologi Ibrahim underscores the value and importance of Journalists and the Media to the success of good governance and commended them for upholding the tenets of their profession.
“As I mark my first anniversary in office, I am proud to recognize the crucial role you have played so far in promoting the programmes and policies of my government and urge you not to relent as the New Niger Agenda project is just beginning”, the Governor stated.
He said, as the fourth arm of government, the Press in general and Journalists in particular owe it a duty to keep the people abreast of governance and to document same for posterity.
While calling on Journalists and the Media to rededicate themselves to effective and objective reportage, the Governor stated that his administration is always open to and will welcome constructive criticism towards the overall development of the state.
He encouraged Journalists in the state to always maintain highest ethical standards in the discharge of their functions and urged the Media generally to isolate and get rid of quacks amongst them in order to address issues of disinformation and misinformation.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for Journalists and the Media industry stressing that the robust, mutually beneficial working relationship with members of the press will be greatly enhanced moving forward.
