Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are in a meeting to forestall the looming strike.
The meeting is promised on the recent threat by the university lecturers’ union to down tools over the alleged federal government’s failure to meet its demands.
It would be recalled that ASUU gave the Federal Government 21 days Ultimatum to meet its demand or risk the union going on strike.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman had hinted last Friday, during a briefing to mark his one year in office that the government would hold a meeting with ASUU to address it’s demands in order to avert the planned strike by the union.
But the two parties could not meet again on Monday the planned date of the meeting, without any reason forwarded to the union.
The on going meeting is expected to preventing another nationwide strike in the nation’s public universities.
ASUU representatives to the meeting are led by its president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke to the meeting taking place at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Minister of Education and top management staff of the Federal Ministry of Education, are also in the meeting.
Others in the delegation of ASUU are former past presidents of ASUU, led by the immediate past president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.
