The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has donated N50 million to Tijjaniya sect to boost their morale in propagating Islam.
The governor announced the donation while speaking at Kebbi International Maulud for Sheik Ahmad Tijjani 2024 held at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
The event was organised by the national body of Tijjaniya sect hosted by its Kebbi chapter.
Gov. Idris assured his readiness to support any organisation with the zeal and courage to propagate Islam and urged them to sustain the tempo.
“We have been in love with this sect ever since before I became what we are doing today. Therefore, we are ready to support you to succeed even if it’s outside this country,” he said.
The governor recalled that when he was contesting the governor’s seat, some people said “Kauran Gwandu has no money to win the election, but with God Almighty on our side, you people also supported us to succeed.
“I will never forget your support which culminated to my victory. Let me use this medium to appreciate those who came from Morocco, Algeria and Senegal to attend this Maulud.”
Earlier, Sheik Ibrahim bn Sheik Dahiru Bauchi, a son to the famous Islamic scholar, Sheik Dahiru Usman Bauchi said the essence of the programme was to remember the contributions of some famous Islamic clerics to Islam.
He said the programme would be used to offer prayers for prevailing peace in the state, Nigeria and the world at large.
The cleric recalled that Shehu Ahmadu Tijjani, who was born in Algeria and died in Morocco, spent his previous life time propagating Islam.
He thanked the governor for the support they had been enjoying from his administration and pleaded for more.
