The Onshore Frontiers Nigeria Limited has donated the sum of Five Million Naira to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai to be dedicated to capacity building of staff and students in geological field mapping by the IBBUL Department of Geology & Mining to be coordinated by the NNPC Professorial Chair.
In a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Onshore Frontiers Limited, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Energy Portfolio Managers, Mr. Makoji Aduku, said the first step towards sustainable harnessing of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon, solid mineral and water resources and as well as control of natural hazards and climate change impacts, is a proper commitment to geological field studies and interpretation.
Mr Aduku emphasized that the donation to the University should benefit the staff and students of the Department of Geology & Mining with more emphasis on the students.
The discussion took place with the Vice Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Hassan Ibrahim, shortly after he delivered a keynote lecture at the NMGS/NAPE, IBBUL Students Chapter Earth Week program.
According to him, he had held discussion with NNPC Professorial Chair in Basinal Studies who is also the Head of the Department of Geology & Mining, Chair Professor Nuhu Obaje, who expressed the desire of the Department to commit the donation to a detailed study of the Middle Benue Trough within which Ebenyi-A well ongoing drilling by the NNPCL is located, to study the subsurface geological data and as well map, log and physico-chemically evaluate the huge resources of limestone, barite, native salt and copper deposited in the traverses of Lafia – Obi – Agwatashi – Adudu – Ribi – Azara – Awe – Jangerigeri – Keana areas of Nasarawa State, with detours to Onshore Frontiers Limited granite and marble polishing factories at Uke and Gudi located on basement complex terrains.
Professor Obaje said the Department is also expecting supports from private individuals for the continuous assessment of Niger State oil and gas and solid mineral resources and that the university will soon announce the names of these individuals and private sector corporate bodies.
The Vice Chancellor said IBB University, Lapai is very proud of Mr. Makoji Aduku and his companies’ corporate social responsibilities, considering the information at his disposal that Onshore Frontiers Limited had donated some XRF machines to some Nigerian universities earlier.
