Nigeria Union of Journalist Niger State council has expressed dismay over the resurgence of urban crime in Minna and other major towns.
This was stated in a communique issued at the end of the councils Congress held at the IBB pen House Minna.
The meeting which was presided by the state chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu deliberated on attacks on residential houses, snatching of bags, phone and valuables at dark spots and at night, while calling on the police and other security agencies to take proactive measures with the view of reducing the menace.
They also called on the state government to come up with measures to address the scourge occasioned by illegal artisanal miners especially at M.I Wushishi housing estate in Minna.
The meeting recommended sustainable means of mitigating the effects of the hardship on people, stressing that the distribution of palliatives and cash cannot address the root cause of the general hardship in the country.
NUJ Member at Congress commended the efforts of the administration of Governor Umar Bago in providing infrastructural facilities and resolved to support the government to achieve its set objectives for the good of the people and state.
