The Hon. Commissioner for Religious Affairs Arc. Sani Aliyu has called on the opposition parties in the state to verify information before accusing the ruling party in the state.
The commissioner stated this in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
He expressed dismay over the way and manner the spokesman of the opposition party, specifically PDP, is going round accusing the State Government on the issue of fraudulent act in sharing the World League’s (MWL) orphan intervention programme in the state.
Aliyu disclosed that the information given to the spokesman of PDP was wrong, adding that the Kebbi State Government under the able leadership of Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, was very mindful of the rights of his people.
Following the discovery of anomalies in the disbursement of the funds, he said, a committee was constituted by the state government to investigate and verify the issue.
The commissioner said: “It’s on record that without hesitation His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State Dr Nasir Idris has set up a committee to investigate the allegations and bring to book those involved in the scam.
“The committee setup by the Governor observed with dismay the belated uproar from the opposition about a fraud and unholy act discovered in the way and manner Malam Adamu Danko handles the disbursement of funds released to some beneficiaries of the Muslim World League’s (MWL) orphan intervention programme in the state.”
The commissioner described the act of opposition’s spokesman as unfortunate, observing that he failed to understand that, “As Muslims, we don’t rush into taking hasty decisions without exhausting the conditions stipulated by the Shari’a, to ensure fairness to all.
“For the records, the committee has acted within its jurisdiction and submitted its report for further scrutiny and appropriate actions by relevant government agencies as enshrined in our laws.
“The Kauran Gwandu led Government’s commitment to equity and justice, especially to the weak and the less privileged, cannot easily be smeared as we have been alert to our responsibilities by closely following the case to a logical conclusion.
“Indeed a high level team from the country directorate of the MWL has been invited to arrive Kebbi on Thursday to ensure completion of payments to deserving beneficiaries.”
He assured that the rights of those shortchanged would be fished-out and returned while the relevant security agencies have been directed to also do the needful and ensure that culprits face the full wrath of the law.
“What’s surprising is the complete silence and slumber of the opposition during the battle and the trying moments of the orphans only to woke up with hues and unnecessary cries when the prisoners of the war are being prosecuted,” he noted.
