The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has congratulated Alhassan Yahaya, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for his overwhelming victory.
In a congratulatory message to the union leader, the governor described the victory of the new president as well deserved.
The governor urged the president to consider his victory as victory for all and urged him to carry all manner of people along to take the union to greater heights.
He observed that NUJ was not just a mere union but it was the only union recognised by the Nigerian constitution right from onset.
Gov. Idris therefore advised both the new president, his executive members and the entire members of the pen to endeavour to build on the already established legacies of the union.
“Remember, Media is a bridge between the government and the governed, who possessed the power to hold those in power accountable.
“As members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, a term that originated in the 19th century, you have a duty to inform the public, provide accurate and unbiased information about current events, politics, and social issues, hold those in power accountable, investigating and reporting on government corruption and abuse of office among others.”
