Niger State Government says the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in the state to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC).
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo on his social media handle X said this significant development marks a new chapter in the state’s approach to managing its energy resources.
He added that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago further emphasized that this transition in electricity management is a major victory for the people of Niger State which empowers the state to take charge of its own electricity system.
According to him, following the recent decisions made this would bring closer to the communities they affect, NSERC will now be responsible for overseeing the electricity market and reposition Niger State to pursue greater energy independence and stability.
Abdulbaqy Ebbo revealed that this change will enable the state to implement policies and initiatives tailored to agricultural production and food security, job creation which ultimately leads to improved livelihoods for the people.
He assured government commitment to working diligently in enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply that will surely foster the economic growth and development of Niger state and Nigeria.
