The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman psc, fsi has organised women police conference for female personnel of the Command today February 13th, 2025 at the Police Officers’ Mess, Minna.
The women conference which is a quarterly summit approved by the Commissioner of Police for the women police personnel in the Command for the purpose of providing knowledge, capacity building for the female personnel and enhancing professionalism. The summit was tagged ‘ A Woman Police with a Difference’
While the Commissioner of Police was declaring the summit open, he asserted that overtime, female police officers have been playing a significant role in law enforcement activities. He highlighted a few women police officers who had performed diligently in their duties, such as the First female FPRO Mrs Olabisi Alofe Kolawole, DIG Ivy Okoronkwo (Rtd) and other serving female senior officers.
He noted that being a female police officer started from home, being a wonderful mother, a loving wife, saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order. He reiterated that taking care of the husband, the children and the home front generally is also an act of protecting lives and property.
He reminded the women police officers that police generally, have peculiar traits to perform their duties very well and noted that communication skills, integrity, honesty and being a woman of dynamism and critical thinking are very important qualities required of them. He said by doing this, the officer is being dedicated to duty, not being biased, and above all, serving with fear of God.
The concept discussed and resource persons for the conference were carefully selected which includes, Mrs Mariam Daniel, Deputy Director Mental Health, Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health Niger State who handled the topic; Embracing authenticity and vulnerability in overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Bar. Vivian Opaluwa, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Minna who also handled Legal definitions and consequences of domestic violence, sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women.
Others are DPO Bosso, SP Emmanuel Daniel who lectured on Ethical and professional standards for women police officers and the PPRO, SP W. Abiodun who delivered on Social media policy of Force. The conference was very interesting, educating and interactive, as the women police officers had the opportunity to interact, sought for clarifications on grey areas and improved their performance in the line of duty.
