The Kebbi State Government has donated the sum of N50 million to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion.
The State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu announced the donation at the launching of Emblem Appeal Fund for the fallen heros as part of activities to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Week, held at the council chambers, Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
He also announced his personal donation of N10 million, on behalf of his family and Kauran Gwandu Foundation.
The governor appreciated the fallen heros for their dedication and sacrifice to keep Nigeria as a single and indivisible entity, while urging other individuals, groups, corporate organisations and the general public to donate generously to the families of the fallen heros.
Gov. Idris described the occasion as an honour in recognition of the fallen heros’ contributions in maintaining peace and stability across the country.
He assured that the fight for peace was ongoing in the state and directed the State Commissioner for Lands and Housing to allocate plots of land in Argungu, Yauri and Zuru to the Nigerian Legion in the areas.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, retired Sergeant Garba Hassan-Suru, commended the governor for supporting and assisting the Nigerian legion in the state.
He said the Kauran Gwandu administration has done a lot for the Nigerian Legion and urged other individuals to also donate to the families of the fallen heros.
The occasion featured decoration of Gov. Nasir Idris with the emblem followed by the Deputy Gov., Sen. Umar Abubakar and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mohammed Usman-Zuru as well as formal launching of the Emblem Appeal Fund.
