Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has described the late former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, as a rare statesman whose wisdom, humility, and dedication to national progress left an enduring mark on Nigeria.
In a heartfelt condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago said Ogbeh’s passing is not just a loss to Benue State, where he hailed from, but to the entire country that benefitted from his intellect, leadership, and creative spirit.
He recalled the late minister’s ability to blend politics with genuine service, his passion for agriculture as a tool for national growth, and his gift for inspiring others through both public service and the arts.
“Chief Ogbeh was a leader who gave his best in every role he held, from the cabinet to party leadership, and even as a playwright,” the governor noted. “His footprints will remain in the nation’s history as a symbol of patriotism and excellence.”
Governor Bago commiserated with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Och’Idoma, HRM John Elaigwu Odogbo, the bereaved family, and all Nigerians mourning his death. He prayed for God to grant Ogbeh eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Chief Audu Ogbeh served Nigeria in various capacities, including Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (2015–2019), National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (2001–2005), and Minister of Communications (1982–1983). Beyond politics, he was respected for his writings and his unwavering advocacy for rural development.
