WADATA MEDIA AND ADVOCACY CENTRE (WAMAC), an NGO dedicated to strengthening investigative journalism skills to fight corruption, with the support of MacArthur Foundation, is calling on anti-corruption agencies EFCC and ICPC to investigate the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC) over allegations of distributing expired fish feeds and faulty computers under its Youth Transformation Programme in Minna.
The multi-million naira scheme, aimed at empowering over 5,000 youths across six member states, has been marred by substandard products, including fish feeds expired since March 2024 and malfunctioning laptop computers. This is unacceptable and warrants immediate attention.
WAMAC demands that N-HYPADEC recalls all distributed items for scrutiny and further investigation to prosecute those culpable in the procurement process. This is a clear case of mismanagement and potential corruption, which undermines the programme’s objectives and the trust of the beneficiaries.
We urge EFCC and ICPC to:
– Investigate the procurement process of the expired fish feeds and faulty computers.
– Identify and prosecute those responsible for the mismanagement.
– Ensure that N-HYPADEC is held accountable for its actions.
