The Congress extensively deliberated on issues that would guarantee growth and development of the State, ensure peaceful co-existence among diverse groups as well as enhance cordial relationship between government and practioners.
The Congress resolved thus;
1. That the Council Chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu who presided over the meeting called on members to continue to take steps to enhance their living standards leveraging on multi media platforms and abide by the code of ethics of the profession .
2. That the Council Chairman enjoined Journalists to be united and support one another as well as always make suggestions that will ensure growth and development of the union.
3. That Comrade Nmodu gave assurance that the council executives will continue to take decisions in the interest of the members.
4. Congress agreed that, all chapels that have not conducted elections should do so within two (2) weeks.
5. The Congress also resolved that members should be steadfast in the payment of their professional and practicing fees
6. The Congress endorsed unanimously the candidature of Comrade Dauda Mohammed of Nigeria Television Authority NTA Minna as the Zonal Secretary Zone D (North Central ) and commended the spirit of solidarity shown by the Councils in Zone D of NUJ and the role of the National President Chief (Dr) Chris Iziguso to return Comrade Dauda Mohammed unopposed at the National Delegates conference in Owerri, Imo state
7. The Congress commended the efforts and assistance of the Niger state Governor Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago to the state council of NUJ as well as his development agenda for the state.
8. The Congress however called on the Niger State Government to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of ongoing projects. Similarly the Congress called on the government to ensure that residents of the state get access roads to move around seamlessly in view of the ongoing road construction in Minna especially , urging contractors to provide alternative routes before blocking the existing routes . The Congress also called for accelerated work on the ongoing projects.
9. The Congress also called on Niger state Government and security agencies to improve security coverage in the state , this is ventilated on the window of the observation of the Congress that criminals are gradually making life unbearable for residents in some black spots in the state.
10. Consequently, the Niger State police Command is implored by the Congress to increase visibility of police personnel in Minna and the state in general, thus Particular attention should be given to improving Security along Zuma rock in suleja , Suleja township, Minna township,minna- Kontagora road , and many bandit ridden areas in Mariga, Rafi, Munya, and Shiroro local government areas to reduce incessant attacks on residents and commuters
11. The Congress called on the Government to look into the root causes of the incessant accidents on suleja-Izom road that have claimed many lives while calling on the Federal Road Safety Corp FRSC to station its men on the bad spots of the road for effective traffic control .
12. The Congress called on Government to also address indiscriminate parking of heavy duty vehicles on Minna-Suleja road.
13. The Congress urged the State Government to sure that the minimum wage and consequential adjustments therein are done in line with standards while improving the hazard allowances of media workers alongside the adjustments.
14. Congress appreciated government for giving permanent appointments to casual workers in Broadcasting Corporation of Niger State BCNS (Radio Niger) and called on state government to extend the same gesture to Newsline Newspapers and Niger STate Television, NSTV.
15. The Congress assured the Governor of Niger state Mohammed Umar Bago of the support of practicing Journalists for his development agenda and therefore urged him to always see Journalists as worthy partners for the development of the state.
