The Development Initiative of West Africa (DIWA) has commissioned a motorized borehole in Budo community, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, as part of its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project, with support from AusRelief Limited.
At the commissioning ceremony, DIWA Project Manager, Musa El Thani Mohammed, said the community, located about seven kilometers from Paiko town, was selected following a formal request for a water station and an advocacy visit. He urged residents to take ownership of the facility by establishing a local management committee to ensure proper maintenance.
The Hakimi of Budo, Alhaji Yahaya Bagwai Baba, commended the organization for addressing the community’s water needs. He, however, appealed for additional interventions such as the construction of a school and a hospital to further improve the living conditions of residents.
A resident, Mariya Liman, who spoke in Gbagyi, also expressed gratitude to DIWA and its partners for the intervention.
The project features a generator-powered borehole with two 2,000-litre capacity water tanks, designed to supply up to 5,000 litres of clean water daily.
