Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, on Saturday attended the closing ceremony of the Minna Annual Polo Tournament, where he witnessed the final matches of the prestigious sporting event.
The finals, held at the Minna Polo Ground, featured a lineup of high-stakes contests including the Late Dawule Baba Memorial Cup, Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Cup, Governor’s Cup, and the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Cup.
A highlight of the event was the Late Dawule Baba Memorial Cup final, where Team A—featuring Marwan Mohammed Umaru Bago, son of the farmer governor—triumphed over Team B with a 4-3 win.
In the Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Cup, Team Profile delivered a commanding performance to defeat Minna City Cars 11-3. Profile also clinched the Governor’s Cup by scoring 2½ goals against Barns and City, who scored 2 goals.
El-Amin 1 emerged victorious in the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Cup after edging out El-Amin 2 with a score of 1½ goals to 1.
Trophies were presented to the winning teams, while awards were given to all participants of the final matches in recognition of their performance and sportsmanship. The winning sides celebrated their hard-fought victories to the delight of the crowd.
The closing ceremony drew numerous dignitaries and polo lovers, including the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruq Bahago. The event was a vibrant display of talent, tradition, and commitment to the sport of polo.
