Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support victims of floods, banditry, boat mishaps, and fire disasters in Niger State.

The donation, made at the Government House in Minna, was complemented with 2,000 bags of 50 kg rice, 16,000 wrappers for women, and 100 pairs of shoes to provide immediate relief to affected families.

Speaking during the symbolic presentation, Senator Tinubu said her visit was to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State over the devastating incidents. “I share in the pain and grief of the families who have suffered these tragedies. It is our hope that these challenges can be overcome, and this support will help victims rebuild their lives,” she said.

She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift response to disasters across the country and noted that the support from the Renewed Hope Initiative is meant to complement government efforts in alleviating the suffering of victims.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who received the donation, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her generosity and compassion. “Your empathy and support are clear testimonies of your exemplary leadership and love for humanity. This intervention will change the lives of our disaster victims,” he stated. He acknowledged that Niger State’s many river tributaries make it prone to flooding, adding that the government is intensifying efforts to mitigate its impact.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, also praised the gesture, describing it as a source of humanitarian relief and a demonstration of national solidarity for the victims.

Senator Tinubu was accompanied to the event by the wife of the Chief of Staff to the President and the wives of the governors of Niger, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Katsina, Taraba, Bayelsa, Ogun, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Kebbi States.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Niger State Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, Senator Muhammad Sani Musa (Niger East), Minister of State for Agriculture Abdullahi Sabi, Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers Yahaya Abubakar, Emirs of Minna, Borgu, and Kagara, members of the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, and other top government officials.
