No fewer than twenty-one corpses have been recovered with three people rescued in a flash flood disaster that ravaged two communities of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan hausawa in Mokwa town of Mokwa Local Government
Area in Niger state.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA in a statement issued by the Director General Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Arah said the incident occurred on Thursday during a torrential downpour of very high intensity that lasted several hours.
He added that over ten persons are still missing as search and rescue operation is still ongoing while the three survivors (a woman and her two children) are receiving treatment for wounds and shock at Mokwa general.
Baba Arah explained that the surging flood water submerged and washed away over fifty residential houses with their occupants.
According to him, the agency in collaboration with Mokwa Local Government Authority, local divers and volunteers are conducting search and rescue operation to rescue survivors and recover other corpses.
