Former Military President of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has urged Nigerians to recognize and immortalised the contributions of former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon to peace coexistence of Nigerians.
The Former Military President in an exclusive interview at his Minna uphill residence to celebrate General Yakubu Gowon at ninety years commended Gowon’s role in holding Nigeria together, especially in the aftermath of the civil war.
He highlighted Gowon’s success in fostering national unity and called on Nigerians to celebrate his accomplishments.
Reflecting on the post-war era of reconciliation, of
rehabilitation, and reconstruction, Babangida emphasized the importance of learning from the conflict to promote unity.
He noted that Gowon’s efforts as a young leader remains a significant lesson for the younger generation.
It could be recalled that Gowon delivered the famous “no victor, no vanquished” speech at the end of the war, aiming to foster healing and reconciliation after one of the deadliest conflicts in modern history.
