The Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum under the leadership of Maj-Gen. Mohammed Magoro has raised an alarm over rising political statements which were inimical to peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development of the state.
Justice Mohammed Suleiman-Ambursa, the first Vice Chairman of the forum observed this in a statement issued to newsmenby the Public Relations Officer of the Forum Mal. Garba Hamisu Zuru, Dan Amanan Zuru in Birnin Kebbi.
He said: “The forum observe some unhealthy political statements, incitement and praise singing of attacks on some political gladiators, which is inimical to peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development of the State
“The State Elders are disturbed with statements and activities that thighs affect the existing peace, prosperity and stability of the people of the State
“The Kebbi Elders call on all political leaders to prevail on and prevent all their supporters and admirers from making any form of incitement and praise singing of attacks on any personality, which might lead to the breakdown of law and order.”
The vice chairman quoted the elders advising politicians and their supporters to comply strictly with the provisions of the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines and regulations on political activities and campaigns in order to ensure harmonious and peaceful coexistence in the state.
He said the forum appealed to all relevant security agencies particularly, the police and DSS to ensure compliance with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines on political campaigns and prosecute any violations of the law
Suleiman-Ambursa added that the forum also appealed to the good people of the state, the social media and the conventional press, not to publicise any form of inciting statements or praise singing, in the interest of the state.
