The Executive Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the immediate reopening of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, following a comprehensive review of security and infrastructural improvements.
The university had been temporarily shut down due to security concerns and the unfortunate loss of lives within the institution.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the governor expressed satisfaction with the enhanced security measures and infrastructural upgrades put in place to protect students, staff, and the entire university community. He directed that academic activities resume on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The SSG reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of students and staff while ensuring academic activities continue without disruption. He also commended the joint efforts of security agencies, university management, and community leaders in addressing the challenges that necessitated the closure.
According to Alhaji Usman, Governor Bago emphasized that the safety and welfare of the university community remain a top priority for his administration, reiterating his commitment to education as a key driver of development.
The government urged all returning students and staff to strictly comply with security protocols and cooperate with university authorities to ensure a smooth and safe resumption.
