The Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed-BK has lauded the gigantic efforts of His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for digitisation of Kebbi State Radio.
The commissioner, who gave the commendation while receiving the procured equipment in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, described the governor as workaholic.
He said: “We are gathered here at the headquarters of Ministry of Information and Culture, Kebbi State to personally receive consignment of equipment purchased for Kebbi Radio.
“The purchase of these equipment was graciously approved by His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu in view of his concern for publicity.”
While describing the decision of the present administration to procure the equipment as apt, the commissioner also observed that the purchase was the first of its kind in the history of the station.
He said the essence of the equipment was upgrade the station to a digital one towards boosting its services to compete favourably with other radio stations not only in Kebbi but across the nation.
“We want to ensure that their operations are up to date, therefore, these equipment are very vital. We have a number of ideas about the radio station,” he said.
The commissioner added that the governor has vowed that the station would be fully digitised with digital and up-to-date equipment to operate optimally and to serve the larger society better.
Ahmed-BK charged the staff of the station to make judicious use of the equipment to serve the purposes for which they were procured for.
In his speech, the General Manager of the station, Eng. Mahe Mohammed listed the equipment to include; desktops with monitors, two-in-one computers, mediates and local area connection items.
He said the era of taking bulletin or papers here and there has gone, assuring that the station would soon go digital.
“All the offices, studio and newsroom will be interconnected so that everything will be done digitally. So, there is no need for people to be going here and there.
“Casters will just be seated while the edited bulletin will be sent to them for onward broadcast.
“The station will soon become a modern one where written bulletin on paper will become a thing of the past,” he assured.
The manger recalled that the station had been suffering for long, requesting here and there to get the said equipment but all in vein.
He said: “But with the coming of Kauran Gwandu, he visited the station and promised that he is going to do it and he has done it, we thank him for fulfilling his pledge.”
