The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris has laid the foundation of a newly established Federal College of Education (Technical) at Yauri, Yauri Local Government Area of the state.

Laying the foundation on Saturday at Yauri, the governor stated that for a nation to develop and confront emerging challenges, people must give education all the seriousness it deserves.

“it is a known fact that without quality and skilful education for our teeming youths, no meaningful development can be achieved,” he said.

Gov. Idris insisted that his administration would continue to prioritise the development of education in Kebbi State right from basic to tertiary level.

“We consider education as one of our cardinal responsibilities and this responsibility is a social debt, we owe this generation a duty, that accounts for the huge investment we have expended in education and we will not relent in investing more on education,” he said.

The governor, who also donated Government Day Secondary School, Tondi to serve as the Take-off site of the college, had equally gave a vast land of 145 hectres behind the take off school to serve as the college permanent site.

He also paid for the compensation of the entire land meant for the permanent site.

“I wish to reassured the Governing Council and the Management of the College that I will continue to ensure consistent support towards the development of the college,” he assured.

In his remarks, the representative of the Minister of Education Mr Samuel Etu, thanked the Kebbi State Governor for complementing the Federal Government’s efforts in promoting education sector in the state.

He added that the institution would train youths on different skills, in addition to impacting technical education

Also speaking, the Chairman, Governing Council Rt. Hon. Isma’ila Ahmed Gadaka appreciated Kebbi State Governor for his contribution to the establishment of the institution and equally remained committed to ensuring that the college takes off on a solid foundation.

“Your Excellency sir, our beacon of hope lies in you. Our visit to you in January has given us renewed hope that the college will stand tall among its contemporaries,” he added.

“The 400 sitting capacity lecture theatre will be named after you (the Kebbi State Governor Comrade Dr Nasir Idris) as the federal government has given a matching order for the take-off of academic activities by June 2025 along with other sister institutions established at the same time,” he said.

In his welcome address, the Acting Provost of the College, Prof. Sa’ad Umar expressed happiness over the gesture and thanked both the State Governor, Minister of Education Dr Moruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Tanko-Sununu, Minister Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu and Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi for their commitment towards actualising the project.

“Education is a powerful driver of development, investing in education can have a significant impact on reducing poverty and improving health, gender equality, peace and stability.

“We will be committed to providing quality education and training opportunities and we believe that this institution will play a critical role in shaping the future of our nation,” he noted.
