GOVERNOR IDRIS TASKS YOUTHS ON SKILLS ACQUISITION, SELF-RELIANCE
The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has called on youths in the state to embrace skills acquisition in order to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, following the Kebbi State Youth Cultural Event 2025 held on Sunday at the Umaru Waziri Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the event was organised by the Kebbi State Government through the Kebbi Youth Development Association (KYDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Culture and the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), under the theme: “Let’s Unite and Showcase our Tradition.”
The statement noted that Governor Idris, who was represented by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Faruk Abdullahi Muslim, emphasized the need for youths to acquire skills, describing it as critical to both personal and societal development.
“The administration remains committed to supporting youth and women empowerment across all parts of the state,” the statement added.
The statement also quoted the Wife of the Governor and founder of NANAS Foundation, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, as commending the organisers for what she described as a laudable initiative.
She reiterated that Governor Idris is deeply concerned about the development of the youth and remains committed to their progress.
“Youths are the backbone of societal growth. I urge them to be champions of peace and positive change,” she said, noting that her foundation had trained many youths and women in various skills across the state.
In the same vein, the statement added that the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, described the programme as a tool for fostering peace, unity, and development.
He said cultural events such as the Argungu International Fishing Festival remain key in preserving the heritage and traditions of the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of KYDA, Mubashir Mohammed, commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for youth development.
He also praised the governor’s wife for her contributions to youth empowerment, while urging young people to stay away from social vices in order to live productive lives.
