Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has advocated a change in the new world order to pave way for empowerment of emerging economies like Nigeria to grow.
The Governor stated this in an exclusive interview with Sputnik Africa, a Russian State- owned News Agency.
Governor Umaru Bago in the interview stressed the importance of a new global balance admitting that the world order must change as the balance of trade has changed globally.
The Governor embraced the rise of a multipolar world where African countries can assert their sovereignty and have a real voice in shaping international affairs adding that, a new world order will give opportunity for everybody to be able to discuss and negotiate at a global table.
He also pointed out that the idea will bring fairness, and adherence to true global best practices while highlighting the strategic opportunities Nigeria gains by joining the expanded BRICS platform.
Governor Umaru Bago admitted that, with Nigeria joining the BRICS, it is an opportunity that would widen trade opportunities to the BRICS States, pointing out that historically, Nigeria had limited direct trade with countries like Brazil and Russia but can now bridge up that gap through BRICS as Nigeria has been admitted as a partner country of the BRICS bloc of developing economies.
Governor Umaru Bago during the exclusive interview also called for a deeper cooperation between Nigeria and Russia across key sectors like agriculture, mining, education, and health.
Bago emphasized that partnerships with Russian companies will drive job creation, skills development, and large-scale investment.
Governor Bago said already, Niger State aims to drive a major agricultural revival aligned with Nigeria’s food security goals and stressed that, through the State’ rich natural resources, it will leverage on joint ventures with Russia to unlock its untapped economic potential.
The Governor had earlier in Russia led a State Government delegation on a visit to the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University, the first higher Technical educational institution in Russia.
Governor Umaru Bago held meetings with the Rector of the Institution, Prof. Vladimir Litvinenko and was taken round the Institution’s mining Museum, specialized auditoria among others.
