Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, was among spectators that thronged the Minna Polo Field to watch the opening matches of the Bago Charity Polo Tournament organized in his honour.
The governor, who was thrilled with the displays from all the teams that participated in the opening games, congratulated them for exhibiting good sportsmanship.
Six teams are participating in the tournament. They include Niger Foods, Prexir Polo Team, Minna Maizube Polo Team, Dokaji Farms, and two teams from Bago Farms.
In the opening games, Bago Farms (2) defeated Prexir by 4–0, Niger Foods beat Minna Maizube 3–2, while Bago Farms (1) overcame Dokaji Farms 4–1½.
The tournament, organized by Minna Polo Club, was put together in honour of the governor, who is the patron of the club, for his contributions to the growth of the sport.
