The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has cautioned people in the state against any form reprisal attack.

The governor gave the warning when he paid a condolence visit to Mera village in Augie Local Government Area of the state.

It could be recalled that gunmen had on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, stormed Mera village in Augie Local Government Area and killed 17 people.

Sequel to the attack, some people mobilised and attacked Fulani community residing in the sorounding villages

The governor said his administration would not condone any act of lawlessness, adding that nobody was allowed to take the law into his hand, “because this is not in line with justice.

“This reprisal attack lead to the death of children, women and the aged persons. Even during the war, the international law prohibits killing of children, women and the aged persons.”

He assured that security of lives and property would remain one of the topmost priorities of his administration, promising that more patrol vehicles would be purchased for the security agencies deployed to the state.

“We will do that to boost the morale of the security agencies and beef up the security situation across the state,” he noted.

Addressing the affected Fulani community at the palace of District Head of Augie, Alhaji Samaila Adamu Lamnen-Augie, the governor said: “Government will not allow any person or group to take the law into their hands.

“Government will ensure that those who perpetrate this reprisal attack are brought to book. It is sad that some of these people also used the opportunity to steal the property of their victims.”

The governor assured the Fulani community of protection, adding that they were also citizens of Nigeria, hence the need to ensure protection of their lives and property.

Gov. Idris donated the sum of N10 million to the Fulani community, while pledging that more relief materials would channelled to them to cushion the effects of the attack.

Speaking on behalf of the Fulani community, one of the victims, Rugga Hore-Mera, recalled that three members of his family were killed aside others responding to repayment in the hospital.

He said during the attack, 183 huts were burnt to ashes including farm produce and other belongings.

Exonerating himself and his people from the Mera Friday attack, Hore-Mera said he was also a victim of the gunmen last year, where they carted away his over 80 herds of cattle.
