The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has tasked members of Governing Council of the newly established Federal College of Education (FCE) Technical, Yauri to lay a solid foundation that would take the college to greater heights.
He gave the task while receiving the council members alongside other principal officers of the college on a courtesy visit at Abuja.
“I urge you to work hard and be committed to ensuring that you lay a solid foundation for the college to achieve the set goals and objectives of establishing it.
“It might interest you to note that I have been a teacher throughout my lifetime and education has been my topmost priority.”
He assured the visitors that he in collaboration with the Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Yusuf Tanko-Sununu have been working together to ensure the development of Kebbi State in all facets of life.
He added that his doors were always open for support and suggestions that would move the college forward, assuring the readiness of his administration to do everything possible to assist the college to flourish.
The leader of the delegation and the Chairman, Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Isma’ila Ahmed Gadaka congratulated the governor and the good people of Kebbi State for citing of the College at Yauri by the Federal Government.
The chairman said the purpose of the visit was to introduce members of the governing council and the Principal Officers of the newly established college as well as to express the appreciation of the council and management to the governor for his interest and commitment towards the smooth take-off of the college.
This, according to him, has really demonstrated the virtues of a good teacher.
Gadaka specifically appreciated the governor for donating Government Day Secondary School, Tondi, to serve as the take-off site of the college and the vast land given to the college to be the college permanent site.
He formally introduce members of the governing council and principal officers to the governor.
The chairman further solicited the intervention of the governor on utility vehicles, financial support to assist in daily routine activities for the take-off, construction of road networks in the campus, renovation of existing structures in the take-off site as well as perimeter fencing.
In his remarks, the Honorable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko-Sununu highlighted on the efforts made by the governor, both in his capacity as the Chairman of National Union of Teachers (NUT) as well as the Executive Governor.
He describe the governor as a trained teacher and someone who has passion for the development of education.
The minister explained that the governor has contributed immensely during the passing of the bill for the establishment of the college in the National Assembly, as well as assenting to the bill by the President.
He further stated that the governor had also paid the total compensation for the 145 hectres of land donated for the college permanent site and handed over all the documents to the Federal Ministry of Education.
Other contributions of the governor to the development of education as mentioned by the minister is the establishment of the National Open University study centre in Yauri.
