Former President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mazi Mike Okereke, fnipr, has praised the transformational leadership of the Institute under its current President, Dr Ike Neliaku, and the invaluable support of Vice President, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, who is currently serving in an acting capacity.

During his visit to the NIPR National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday, Mazi Okereke commended the Council’s strategic vision, describing it as the driving force behind the Institute’s renewed relevance and national impact. He particularly applauded the synergy between Dr Neliaku and Prof. Dandaura, likening them to “twin brothers in quality leadership and drive,” and acknowledged their shared commitment to elevating the Institute to new heights.

“I am truly impressed with the strategic direction and renewed energy in NIPR today. Under Dr Neliaku’s leadership, the Council has set a clear vision that is redefining the role of public relations in national development. What excites me even more is the remarkable synergy between the President and his Vice President, Prof. Dandaura. Their complementary leadership is a rare gift that is positioning the Institute for even greater achievements,” he stated.

Mazi Okereke, who served as NIPR President from 1988 to 1993, reflected on the Institute’s golden era and expressed his delight that the current leadership is restoring its influence. He noted that under Dr Neliaku’s stewardship, NIPR is regaining its rightful place as a respected advisory body to government and key institutions. He also commended the Federal Government for recognising the vital role of professional public relations in shaping national discourse and fostering citizen engagement.

Mazi Okereke concluded by offering prayers for continued wisdom and strength for the Institute’s leadership, urging them to sustain their momentum in advancing the profession.

In his response, Acting President, Professor Emmanuel S. Dandaura, fnipr, acknowledges Mazi Okereke’s lasting contributions describing him as “a senior statesman and an irreplaceable asset to the Institute”.

My principal, Dr Ike Neliaku, fnipr, President, Chairman of Council, has asked me to tell you that he deeply appreciates your regular counsel and prayers” I will share your kind words and prayers with him upon his resumption on 1st March.

Dandaura added that: “Recall my statement during the Diamond Anniversary that Dr Ike Neliaku is leading the Institute through its Diamond era. However, there can be no Diamond era without a Golden era. You, Mazi, gave the Institute its Golden era. At your time we were chartered. Also with support from other senior practitioners like former Minister of information, Alex Akinyele, fnipr, the Federal Government entrusted NIPR with the sole responsibility of training all local government information officers and key government functionaries. You remain one of our pillars, and for that, we are deeply grateful,” he said.

Prof. Dandaura further reflected on his personal journey in NIPR, highlighting the profound impact Mazi Okereke had on his professional growth.

“Mazi, you inducted me into NIPR membership in 1990 when you were President. Since then, I have continued to draw from your wealth of experience to grow professionally. Thank you,” he added.

The visit was attended by key NIPR officials, including Chief Uzoma Onyegbadue, Registrar and Secretary to the Council; Stanley Ogadigo, Director of Public Relations; and several other senior staff of the Institute.
