National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission N-HYPPADEC Says it is ready to support small scale farmers with smallholder machinery, in order to address food security crisis and boost productivity in the ten N-HYPPADEC States and the country at large.
Managing Director of the Commission Abubakar Sadiq Yelwamade this known during a meeting with Commissioners of Agriculture of ten N-HYPPADEC member states.
The meeting which is the second of its kind and a follow up of the Thailand visit by the Commission, is aimed at ensuring that the Commissions vision in the provision of food for it members states is encouraged and become realistic
The Managing Director Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa said agricultural sector has been the economy’s saving grace and the N-HYPPADEC member states have all it takes to be the lead food producers in Africa.
He said the smallholder machinery would be for small scale farmers who not only form the larger percentage of farming community in Nigeria but also contribute more to food production in the country.
Commissioner for Agriculture and food security in Kebbi state Shehu Muazu and Benue state, Moses Opage said the smallholder machinery would expand production, improve timeliness of operations, widen the application of power to crop processing, alleviate drudgery as well as reduce high cost of labour.
The Commissioners also said that state would come up with workable solution to ameliorate hunger in the country.
