The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman has inaugurated a thirteen-member Committee to investigate the crisis between Dukku/Fulani Communities in Rijau Local Government Area of the State.
Inaugurating the Committee at the Government House, Minna, the SSG reiterated Government’s continued commitment to guaranteeing peace and security of the people in the State regardless of their backgrounds.
He revealed that the Committee consists of men of proven integrity and honesty, while charging them to discharge their duties with sincerity of purpose and diligence.
The Committee has the following terms of reference, trace the historical background of the crisis, examine the immediate and remote causes of the crisis, identity the victims of the dispute from the two Communities, proffer far reaching recommendations to avert future occurrence and any other recommendation that will assist the Government in preventing communal crisis in the State among others.
The Committee has the Hon. Commissioner of Justice as the Chairman while members of the Committee include Commissioners of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Health, Homeland Security and Local Government.
Others are Hon. Member NSHA representing Rijau LGA, Special Adviser, Security, Special Adviser, Chieftaincy, Chairman, Rijau LGA, representative of Commissioner of Police, representative of Kontagora Emirate, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government while the Permanent Secretary, Homeland Security will serve as Secondary I and the Permanent Secretary, Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs will be the Secretary II.
The Committee has two weeks within which to submit it’s report.
