Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has revealed that the State Government is going to partner with any Organization or group involved in agriculture to enable it achieve its agricultural revolution target.
The Governor stated this when he received a delegation from the “Nourishing Nigeria Project ” team on a visit to his office at the Government House Minna.
Governor Umaru Bago said, through collaboration with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector, positive results will be achieved in agriculture which he described as the mainstay of the economy.
Governor Umaru Bago explained that such collaboration can leverage the expertise,resources and innovative approaches of NGOS to boost productivity,improve livelihood and promote sustainable practices
The Governor who commended members of the team for chosing Niger State as one of its pioneering States for the project said, the project is in tandem with the State Government’s agenda for development of children with the idea of having School farms across the State.
He also expressed gratitude having the Federal Ministry of agriculture championing the cause in bringing back domestic resources for agricultural development.
While disclosing the State Government’s readiness to use all its natural and human resources to help develop women and children across the State, the Governor assured the team that his government will match each number of demonstration farm the project intends to implement in the State with ten
The National project Coordinator, Nourishing Nigerian Project who also doubles as the Director, Nutrition and Food Safety Department, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and food security, Nuhu Adamu Kilishi in his remarks commended the Governor and informed him that the Federal Government is well aware of his efforts towards food security which is the reason why Niger State was chosen as one of the four pioneer States for the implementation of the Nourishing Nigeria Project.
He explained that the project is intended to carry children and women along in schools and households in various communities where they will be encouraged to engage in the cropping of nutrient crops, fish farming and poultry.
Adamu Kilishi also revealed that workshops had already been held with relevant stakeholders to discuss on how to implement the project which is expected to be executed withing 18 months in some selected schools.
The Project Coordinator equally disclosed to the farmer Governor about another project tagged, “Accelerated Nutrition Results in Nigeria ANRiN 2.0”, a world Bank assisted project to be implemented in 21 States including Niger State with focus on Crop and animal production, livestock and fisheries.
