Niger State Government has begun the process of selecting Students for its overseas scholarship programme.
The scholarship program which is an initiative of Governor Umaru Bago aims to sponsor 1,000 eligible beneficiaries from Public Secondary Schools only to study Medicine, Engineering, ICT and Agriculture related Courses in Canada, China, India and Brazil.
Examinations for the Scholarship Programme intended for outstanding Students in Secondary School exams and JAMB has already been conducted which covers English, mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Civic Education.
The State Government also insists that the Scholarship program will be solely based on merit in line with the vision of Governor Umaru Bago who initiated the Program to provide opportunities to brilliant children to enable them reach their full potentials regardless of their family backgrounds.
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Asabe Hadiza Mohammed commended the efforts of Governor Umaru Bago for creating an avenue where children through the overseas scholarship have the chance to contribute to the growth and development of the State and Country at large.
The Director General School and Educational Reforms, Maimuna Mohammed said the examination template set for the Students is in conformity with national standards as the State Government intends of bringing out the best among equals.
The Overseas Scholarship examinations were conducted across the State with results of prospective students that will be finally selected for the Overseas Scholarship program expected to be made public in due course.
