Niger State Government has promised to establish Skills
Acquisitions centers in Public primary and secondary schools across the state to enable the students acquire selfsufficient skills before leaving the school.
The State Chairman of Universal Basic Education Board,
NSUBEB Mallam Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, made this
known at the Zonal Enrollment Drive Campaign, Organized by the Niger State ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Niger state Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with Adolescent Girls Initiatives For Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, held in Kontagora, and Mariga Local government area of the State.
Mallam Muhammad Baba said it would help the students to have a better understanding of their interests and abilities, and improve them in decision-making, leading to their personal and professional development.
The NSUBEB Boss stressed that enhancing technical education and vocational training for secondary school students would effectively identify talents that could be
nurtured into profitable enterprises.
The State Coordinator Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE Hajiya Maimuna
Ibrahim Tahir, said AGILE is doing everything possible to ensure that every children have access to quality education especially the girl child.
Maimuna Tahir, said schools will be renovated and furnished with modern equipment under the AGILE Programme, to create a conducive learning environment for the students.
The State AGILE Coordinator reminded the parents that
education of their children is impossible especially the girl child Education, because they are the backbone of society.
In his speech, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammad Muazu Barau, appealed to Government to provide learning materials for the students of Basic and Secondary schools, saying many parents cannot afford to buy a text book, schools bags and other learning materials for their children, as a result of the current economy hardships.
Chairman of Mariga Local government area, Alhaji Abbass Adamu, said schools in the councils are in a dilapidated condition and need the state government urgent intervention.
Some Stakeholders who spoke at the event, appealed to Governor Muhammad Umar Bago to consider reopening of Public Schools shut down in the areas especially, Government Girls Science Unity College Kontagora, as a result of the insecurity bedeviling the Area.
The event featured Questions and Answers, goodwill messages, cultural dance among others.
