Niger State government is to re-introduce the Christian Religious Studies CRS, in public schools across the State.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed this when he received a delegation from the Christians community led by the Deputy Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Mrs Afiniki Dauda at the Government House, Minna.
He explained that the subject which will be made compulsory for Christians in public schools would help them grow with the fear of God.
The Governor who observed that family values and morality have been replaced with social vice,resulting in moral decadence, maintained that the option left is to turn to God and His teachings to rebuild family values and instill the fear of God in the younger generations.
He said doing so will need a deliberate and concerted efforts by the government,parents, religious leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
The Governor also used the forum to announce that the State government will have representation in this year’s Christian pilgrimage to Israel as peace is progressively returning to the Holy land.
He appreciated the Christian community in the State for the visit and the show of love, acknowledging that they have shown him love in diverse ways.
The Governor specifically commended the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna for being a father to him.
He then enjoined Christians to continue to be tolerant, appreciate each other and persevere while reassuring them of his administration’s unflinching support.
The leader of the delegation from the Christian community and Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Mrs Afiniki Dauda, explained that their visit was to congratulate the farmer Governor who recently turned 51 and also to appreciate him for all that he has been doing for the Christians in the State.
In his remarks, the CAN Chairman, Niger State Chapter, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, who was represented by Rev Fr. Emmanuel Williams, congratulated the farmer Governor on his 51st Birthday.
He said the leadership style of the farmer Governor has shown his commitment to fairness and inclusivity irrespective of religion or tribe, which he said has fostered unity and a harmonious society among diverse groups and religion in the state.
The State CAN Chairman then called for the reintroduction of Christian Religious Studies in public schools across the state, adding that its reintroduction, will bring about understanding of the faith and mutual respect.
