Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago says, the State Government is creating a Market Development Authority that will help in regulating and controlling Markets in the State.
The Governor stated this when he received the former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu on a visit to the Governor at the Government House Minna.
Governor Umaru Bago said markets have for long been left in the hands of local Government authorities and in the hands of those who do not know much about local government administration adding that, the creation of the Development Authority is in tandem with the new local government administrative system.
Governor Umaru Bago said, the initiative is also in line with the new Niger vision that will correct anomalies and that a new program will also be designed for local government administration especially the cosmopolitan areas.
He said a Bill is already in the House of Assembly waiting for passage to establish the Market Development Authority.
The former Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu who expressed concern about how spaces have been sold in the Abdulkadir Kure Market said the Local Government Council has deviated from the initial plan of the market by selling off some places illegally.
He appreciated Governor Bago for the initiative of establishing the Market Development Authority which will go along way in addressing challenges.
