Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has restated his administration’s resolve to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural and food security agenda by driving fresh investments into the sector.
The Governor made the pledge in Lagos at the 2025 Agric & Export Expo organised by First Bank of Nigeria, where he was a Special Guest of Honour.
He emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economic growth, urging more Nigerians and private sector players to take advantage of the opportunities in the industry. According to him, Niger State is strategically positioned as the nation’s agricultural hub and is ready to strengthen partnerships that will transform food production and create export opportunities.
Governor Bago noted that President Tinubu has already placed agriculture at the center of his administration’s economic recovery plan, which has continued to draw in both local and international investors. He assured that Niger State would remain consistent in supporting these policies through deliberate interventions across crop production, livestock, and value-chain development.
While identifying access to finance as a major obstacle for farmers, the Governor called on First Bank and other financial institutions to continue providing support to agricultural businesses, stressing that such partnerships are key to sustaining food security and building an export-driven economy.
He commended First Bank for hosting the Expo and Lagos State for collaborating with Niger State in the agricultural sector. He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to unlocking the state’s vast agricultural potential for the benefit of its people and the country at large.
The 2025 First Bank Agric & Export Expo, themed “The Fundamentals of Building an Export-Driven Economy,” convened leaders, policymakers, and investors to deepen conversations around agriculture and strengthen Nigeria’s export capacity.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari; and other industry stakeholders.
